Question:-
I read in a Kitaab of Imaam Ghazaali Rahimahullah, that it is a serious sin for a male to apply black dye to his beard, and Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam has stated that such a person will be deprived of the fragrance of Jannah. A narration is also recorded that Firoun was the first to apply black dye to the beard.
Answer:-
The Mas’ala recorded by Imaam Ghazaali Rahimahullah is correct. Majority of the scholars regard the usage of black dye as impermissible as the usage of black dye has been prohibited in the Hadith. It is recorded in a narration of Abu Dawud Sharif, “Hadrat Abdullah Bin Abbas Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “At the end of time, people will apply black dye, their example or likeness is like the crop of a bird, they will not smell the fragrance of Jannah.” [Re:- Abu Dawud Pg.226 Vol.2]
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: يكون قوم يخضبون في آخر الزمان بالسواد كحواصل الحمام لا يريحون رائحة الجنة
