Question:-
Is the egg donor Haram? Zinah did not occur specifically because the egg donor is not known. Recent researches shows that after the implantation of this embryo, the womb develops connection with the baby such that when the child is born, the baby is more yours than the egg donors, called epigenetic. Would love to hear your thoughts about it!
Answer:-
We do not approve of egg donation and the process of IVF. The egg donor is injected with hormones to induce ovulation of multiple eggs. Thereafter, the eggs are retrieved using ultrasound guided needles. This will necessitate exposing of the Satr without a valid Shari’ee reason.
Further, the eggs are fertilized in a laboratory using the partner’s sperm. This means that the male partner is required to masturbate and collect his sperm which is again Haraam. This is in a way like adultery as the eggs of another female is being fertilized by a non-Mahram’s sperm. Also, an unscrupulous money hungry doctor could even insert the fertilized eggs stored for another couple into the female intending to carry the pregnancy without her even knowing, hence there are many dangers in having the process executed. After the fertilization process, the egg is inserted into the woman that intends carrying the baby which again necessitates that her Satr be exposed.
This is also an unnatural method of conceiving. The Quraan Sharif states, “or He pairs them as male and female (offspring those parents whom He wills.) Allah also makes whomsoever He wills barren (so that they do not have any children.) Indeed, He is All-Knowing, All Powerful. [Surah Shura, Verse 50]
Also, medical experts state that IVF slightly raises the risk that the baby will be born early or with a low birth weight. There is also a risk of cancer. Some studies indicate that certain medicines used to stimulate egg growth might be linked with getting a specific type of ovarian tumour. Another research states that becoming pregnant with multiple babies carry higher risks of pregnancy-related high blood pressure and diabetes.
In conclusion, one should always be pleased with the decision of Allah Ta’ala. If children are destined, then Allah Ta’ala will grant children without having to go through any procedure. Hence, there is no need to go through these lengths and get involved in so many wrongs to conceive.
ALLAH TA’ALA KNOWS BEST!
