Embroidering Names on Musallahs

Jul 31, 2025 | Miscellaneous

QUESTION:

Is it permissible to use a Musallah with the name “Humairah” embroidered in Arabic, on it? This name is a title of the beloved wife of our beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam hence, will it be considered as disrespectful since the Musallah will be placed on the ground?

ANSWER:

One should avoid using such a Musallah as this would be tantamount to showing disrespect. Merely placing such a Musallah on the floor with this name, is disrespect to the noble wife of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Moreover, at times, one may walk on it or a child may trample upon it etc. Allah Ta’ala says in the Quraan Majeed:

وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَائِرَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى الْقُلُوبِ (الحجّ آ:32)

“And whosoever honours the symbols (salient fearures) of Allah, then it is indeed from the piety of the heart.”
