QUESTION:
Are we allowed to send our Daughters to college? Please advise.
ANSWER:
From the outset, it should be borne in mind that Allah Ta’ala has blessed us with the most pure and perfect Deen of Islam. Every command of Allah Ta’ala is full of wisdom and goodness, hence, if one abides by the commands of Allah Ta’ala, then he will be rightly guided and he will ultimately attain salvation. On the other hand, by violating the laws of Shariah, therein lies our destruction.
The explicit command of Allah Ta’ala in the Quraan Majeed regarding women is:
“And remain in your homes, and do not display yourselves as you did in the days of Jaahiliyyah.”
Yes, Shariah has permitted women to leave the home due to necessity with the proviso that proper Purdah is observed and they refrain from adorning themselves and applying scent in public. Consider the following Ahadith:
Abdullah Radiallahu Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “The woman is Awrah (one that should be concealed), when she goes out, Shaytaan makes her looks beautiful (making her a means of temptation.)”
Ali Radiallahu Anhu mentions that he was with Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, when he asked: “What is best for a woman?” The Sahaabah remained silent. When I returned home, I asked Fatima Radiallahu Anha: “What is the best thing for women?” She said: “That men do not see her.” I mentioned that to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and he said, “Fatima is certainly a part of me, may Allah Ta’ala be pleased with her.”
Now, after understanding the position of females in Islam, no person with Hayaa and modesty will ever send their daughters to any venue where there is intermingling of sexes, or where male and female students date and lose their chastity, while some even lose their Imaan (Allah forbid!).
A person told an Alim that he is sending his daughter to study in the United Kingdom, so the Alim should make Dua for her. He replied, “You are sending your daughter in the rain, and you are asking me to make Dua that she doesn’t get wet.” The Alim also said, “You are planting weeds and expecting flowers to grow.” In conclusion, colleges and universities will ruin and destroy our children. We should protect our children more than we protect our wealth and assets.
ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
