Managing Psoriasis while in Ihraam

QUESTION:

My daughter suffers from Psoriasis and is in Umrah/Hajj. If she scratches her head during Ihraam, what is the penalty?

ANSWER:

Generally, one should avoid scratching the head whilst in Ihraam as far as possible. The Fuqaha have stated that it is Makrooh to scratch the head or beard (in Ihraam) if there is fear of hair falling off. Although Damm will not become obligatory if hair falls due to scratching, one will be required to discharge Sadaqah. However, if one very slightly scratches the head or beard (without any hair falling off), then there is no harm in doing so.
