Females Memorizing the Quraan Sharif
QUESTION:
I desire to do Hifdh of the Quraan Sharif. I have memorized the 30th Juz along with other Surahs. Is it encouraged for females to do Hifdh?
ANSWER:
There are great virtues cited in the Mubaarak Ahaadith regarding making Hifdh of the Quraan Majeed. Some of these Ahaadith are recorded below:
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ القُرْآنَ، وَهُوَ حَافِظٌ لَهُ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الكِرَامِ البَرَرَةِ، وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ، وَهُوَ يَتَعَاهَدُهُ، وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ شَدِيدٌ فَلَهُ أَجْرَانِ»
(صحيح البخاري #4937)
A’aisha Radiallahu Anha reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “A person who recites the Quraan and has memorized it, will be with noble scribes (Angels/Prophets, in Jannah).”
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ” يُقَالُ يَعْنِي لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ: اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا، فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَتَكَ عِنْدَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَأُ بِهَا “
(سنن الترمذي #2914)
Abdullah bin Amr Radiallahu Anhuma reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “It will be said to the one who memorized the Quraan/held fast on the Quraan [together with practicing upon it], ‘Recite and ascend and recite just as you would recite in the world, for your abode (in Jannah) will be the last verse you recite.”
عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَنْ قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَمِلَ بِمَا فِيهِ، أُلْبِسَ وَالِدَاهُ تَاجًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، ضَوْءُهُ أَحْسَنُ مِنْ ضَوْءِ الشَّمْسِ فِي بُيُوتِ الدُّنْيَا لَوْ كَانَتْ فِيكُمْ، فَمَا ظَنُّكُمْ بِالَّذِي عَمِلَ بِهَذَا؟»
(سنن أبي داؤد #1453)
Sahl bin Mu’az Aljuhani Radiallahu Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “The one who recites the Quraan and acts upon it, on the Day of Qiyamah his parents will be made to wear a crown whose light is better than the light of the sun had it been in the dwellings of the world, so what do you think (of the reward) of the person himself.”
Notwithstanding the above, our advice is that if you are punctual in diligently fulfilling all the Faraaidh, carrying out the chores of the home, looking after the needs of your spouse, and you are certain that you will keep on revising your Dhor for the rest of your life and will not forget the Quraan Majeed, then you may pursue making Hifdh of the Quraan Majeed.
