QUESTION:
I tend to stutter and stammer on certain words while reciting Quraan Sharif, and I’d like to correct that. What could I do to correct it? Please advise.
ANSWER:
Firstly, it should be borne in mind that the condition you are experiencing is from Allah Ta’ala and one should always be pleased with His decision. Nabi Moosa Alaihis Salaam also had a stutter due to placing a chamber of coal in his mouth during childhood in the palace of Firoun, yet he invited towards the oneness of Allah Ta’ala and guided the Bani Israeel in matters of Deen until the end of his life. Hence, your condition should not deter or stop you from reciting the Quraan Sharif and serving the Deen of Allah. Furthermore, when a person stutters when reciting the Quraan Sharif, then he attains a double-fold reward; one for reciting the Quraan Majeed and the other for the added difficulty which he has to endure when reciting.
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْمَاهِرُ بِالْقُرْآنِ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَةِ وَالَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَتَتَعْتَعُ فِيهِ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ شاق لَهُ أَجْرَانِ» (مشكاة المصابيح ص652 ج1)
At the same time, we advise you to recite the following verse of the Quraan Sharif in abundance:
رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي ويَسِّرْ لِيَ أمْرِي واحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِن لِسانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي ) طه آ: 28)
