Females studying medicine
Questions:-
If it is preferable for women to remain indoors and only study a particular field when necessary, then how will we produce female doctors? There wouldn’t be enough qualified female doctors and the rest of the women will then be forced to rely upon men in all professions.
There isn’t a separate university for females in Pakistan other than the Islamic University.
Answer:-
We do understand your concern in this regard. However, we cannot overlook the injunction in the Quraan Sharif of women remaining within the confines of their homes, and thereafter, permit women to attend university based on our logic, understanding and reasoning. The Hadith states, “There is no obedience to the creation at the expense of disobeying the Creator.” The laws of Allah Ta’ala will reign supreme in all times and, under all conditions.
If there is a shortage of Muslim female doctors, then females may resort to utilizing the services of non-Muslim female doctors, and if there is a shortage of non-Muslim female doctors, then women may seek treatment from Muslim male doctors. This is based on the principle recorded by the jurists which states: “Necessities warrant prohibitions,” which, in simple terms means, that certain things, in spite of its impermissibility, become permissible on the basis of necessity. There are many examples found in the Ahaadith of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam that support this principle.
I’m sure that you are also fully aware of the harms of attending university, and of women emerging from their homes. The harm of women venturing outdoors is not hidden from anyone, and it is well known that this has caused havoc in society in the form of illicit and extra-marital relationships. How can any sane person tolerate such evil simply because there is a need for additional female medical professionals? These medical professionals may be assisting a minute percentage of the Ummah, whilst the pandemic of immorality and sin has engulfed the entire Ummah, and, in fact, destroyed a large percentage of the Ummah. Such a compromise is definitely unacceptable to any individual that possesses some level of intellect. In conclusion, the Shariah was completed and perfected during the lifetime of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and it has provided a solution to every problem. Allah Ta’ala states in the Quraan Sharif, “So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know.” [Re:- Surah Nahl, Verse 43] You have adopted the correct approach by referring your matters to the scholars, and, by abiding to their advices (which in reality are the teachings of Allah and His Rasul Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam), you will be rightly guided Insha’Allah.
