Finding out the gender of a fetus
QUESTION:
Kindly advise if it is permissible for parents to find out the gender of a baby before it is born?
ANSWER:
The impermissibility of photography is established from the Ahadith of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Hence, taking a digital scan of the foetus without a valid Shari’ee reason will not be permitted. Shariah does not consider finding out the gender of the child a valid reason to have a scan taken.
