Replying to Salaam while teaching Quraan Sharif

QUESTION:

While an Ustaadh is listening to a student reading Quraan Sharif, another student walks in and makes Salaam. Should the Ustaadh reply to the Salaam?

ANSWER:

Under normal circumstances it is Waajib to reply to one who initiates the Salaam. However, if one is engaged in Tilaawat of the Quraan Sharif or listening to the Quraan Sharif being recited, then it will not be necessary to respond.

 رد السلام واجب الا على من في الصلاة او بأكل شغل او شرب او قراة او ادعية او ذكر او في خطبة او تلبية او في قضاء حاجة الانسان او في اقامة او الاذان (رد المحتار ج٢ص٣٧٦)
