Hair getting exposed during Salaah

Apr 25, 2023 | Nullifying Factors

Question:-

1. I’m very conscious of my hair showing in Salaah through my Burqa. I wear a scarf under the Burqa but despite this, sometimes a few strands show. I also keep passing my fingers during Salaah to ensure that it’s fully covered. I’ve recently learnt that to use your hands three times in any posture breaks the Salaah, so now, I ensure that I only do this twice. However, I have a lot of doubts in Salaah and it keeps troubling me; what if my hair is showing and I  fear that if it’s showing for the duration of three Subhanallah or more, then my Salaah will be nullified. Please advise! What is the ruling regarding the few strands of hair being exposed?

2. I was performing Salaat-ut- Tasbeeh a few days ago. In the Jalsa posture, just before Tashahhud, due to the lengthy position, I forgot that I had already passed my hand to see if my hair is covered. This happened twice and then I passed it once more. Did this break my Salaah? I can’t remember if it was before Tashahhud or after, but it was definitely in  the sitting position. Do I have to repeat my Salaah?

Answer:-

1. If quarter of a limb which one is required to cover in Salaah is exposed for the duration of three ‘Subhanallah’, then Salaah will be invalidated. Although one should ensure that all the hair is covered in Salaah, the Salaah will not be invalidated by a few strands of hair being exposed. Hence, in the queried scenario, your Salaah will be valid. [Re:- Behishti Zewar Pg.13]

2. If one moves the hand thrice consecutively in one posture of Salaah, then such movement is categorized as Amal-e-Katheer which results in one’s Salaah being invalidated. Again, in your case you moved the hand thrice in the entire Salaah and not in one posture of Salaah, hence your Salaah will be valid.
