Heedless Of Salaah

Apr 14, 2026 | Salaah

QUESTION:

I have been married for two and a half years and both my husband and I have struggled with our Salaah. However, since falling pregnant I have made it a duty to ensure that I read my Salaah and have encouraged him to do so as well. Unfortunately, he does not heed to this and we end up fighting.

It’s becoming mentally and emotionally exhausting for me, especially while pregnant. I am afraid of the type of effect this will have on our child. Please advise.

ANSWER:

From the outset, you should keep in mind that it is your responsibility as a wife to remind your husband to be punctual with his daily Salaah.

The Quraan Sharif states:

ادْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ (سورة النحل: 125)

Call towards the path of your Rabb (that is towards the Shariah) with wisdom (by means of the Quraan Sharif or teachings of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and with beautiful counsel (in a soft manner commanding good and prohibiting from evil).”

This verse clearly indicates that one’s approach should be of a gentle nature, not in a commanding and dictating manner. Your responsibility terminates at this point, that is, after reminding him-it is totally up to him whether he wants to act upon the injunctions of the Shariah or not. If he doesn’t reform and act upon your advices, then the sin of neglecting Salaah is upon him, as you have fulfilled your duty as a wife.

Many womenfolk, like yourself, are desirous of their husbands reforming, as a result of which, they go the extra mile in trying to achieve this goal and objective. However, this sometimes causes the man to become rebellious and more obstinate in his ways. We, therefore, suggest that you do not burden yourself, but rather, suffice on reminding him in a kind and loving manner, and thereafter leave the matter totally in the Hands of Allah Ta’ala.

At the same time, we suggest that you do the following:

1) Read 2 Rakaat of Salaah daily, particularly with the intention of beseeching Allah Ta’ala to reform your husband.

2) Thereafter recite 100 times Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, followed by 500 times La Hawla Wala Quwwata Illa Billah, and then 100 times Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam again, followed by Dua. Do this daily for a period of 40 days. You will see the benefit of this Amal very shortly Insha’Allah, with the proviso that you are practicing upon the Shari’ah as well. However, ensure that you perform Salaah and carry out this Amal at a time when you are in total seclusion. In other words, your mind should be at ease and there shouldn’t be any form of disturbance.

3) Start Taleem of Fazaail e A’amaal. In this Kitaab, there is a section on the virtues of performing Salaah and the stern warnings of discarding Salaah. Insha’Allah, by commencing Taleem of this Kitaab, you will see some change in him.

4) Encourage him to attend some senior Aalim’s programmes and discourses. This will create a fervour in his heart to become steadfast in Deen Insha’Allah. If he is not inclined to attend programmes, you may download some Bayaans (lectures) on the topic of Salaah and send it to him.

ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
