Honour Of An Aalim’s Parents
QUESTION:
It is well documented in the Ahaadith that when a child completes Hifdh of Quraan Sharif,
his parents will be given a crown to wear, where its brilliance will outshine that of the sun in this world. So what then, is the reward of a parent when their child graduates as an Aalim?
ANSWER:
We could not locate any specific reward mentioned for a parent of a child who becomes an Aalim but most certainly the parents will be rewarded with a handsome reward on the day of Qiyaamah. There are many virtues for that person who treads the path of gaining the knowledge of Deen, so one can well imagine what the parents’, who guided and encouraged their child to become an Aalim of Deen, reward will be.
Hadrat Anas bin Malik Radiallahu Anhu said that a man came to Rasulullah Sallallahu Aalihi Wasallam asking for a mount, but Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam did not have anything by him, so he directed him to another man who provided him with a mount. The man then came to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and told him what had happened. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “The one who guides to good is like the one who does it.”
See below for some virtues of acquiring the knowledge of Deen:
1. Hadrat Abu Darda Radiallahu Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
“The one who treads a path seeking the knowledge of Deen, Allah Ta’ala will make his path to Jannah easy. The Angels spread out their wings under the feet of the one seeking the knowledge of Deen in expression of happiness for the path he has adopted. All the creation in the heavens and the earth, even the fish in the ocean, seek forgiveness on behalf of the one seeking knowledge. The virtue of an Aalim over a worshipper is like the superiority of the moon over all the other stars. And certainly the ‘Ulama are the heirs of the Ambiya. The Ambiya did not leave behind gold and silver coins; rather they left behind Knowledge. Whoever has acquired it, really he has acquired a great share” (Sunan Tirmidhi Hadith #2682).
2. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu reports that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
“The entire world is cursed and whatever it contains is also cursed except for the Dhikr of Allah Ta’ala and what is joined to it; and except for the Aalim and the Muta’allim (student of Deen).” (Sunan Tirmidhi Hadith #2322).
3. Hadrat Abu Umamah Radiyallahu Anhu reports that on one occasion mention was made of two people before Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam; one was an Aabid (worshipper) and the other was a Aalim (scholar of Deen). Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “The virtue of the scholar over a worshipper is like my virtue over the lowest among you”
Thereafter Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
“Indeed Allah, His Angels and all those in the heavens and the earth continue to make Du’a for the one who imparts good to the people, to the extent that even the ant in its hole and the fish make Du’a.” (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith# 2685)
