Istikhaarah for another person

Nov 18, 2021 | Salaah

Question:-

What is the ruling in regards to carrying out Istikhaarah for another person?

Answer:-

Istikhaarah actually refers to ‘seeking of good’ which is in reality a Dua. Therefore, the Ulama have written that just as one may request another person to make Dua on one’s behalf, particularly when he is a pious person and there is hope of his Dua being accepted, similarly, one may request another person to make Istikhaarah on his/her behalf. If one requested several people to make Istikhaarah on his /her behalf then one may act on the Istikhaarah of any of them and there will be good in it, Insha’Allah.

The procedure remains the same just as when one performs the Istikhaarah himself. One will perform 2 Rakaats of Salaah and thereafter recite the Dua of Istikhaarah mentioned in the Hadith. On reaching the underlined words in the Dua, one will think of the matter in regards to which one is seeking goodness. For example, Zaid intends marrying Zainab, so on reaching the underlined words in the Dua, the one making Istikhaarah would contemplate the marriage between Zaid and Zainab. His answer will be based on the feeling he experiences after the Istikhaarah, whether positive or negative.
