Items Purchased For One’s Child

QUESTION:

My daughter left home over a year ago to pursue a Haraam relationship with her stepfather. She subsequently took all her possessions with her. I have in my possession, various items that I purchased for her to take to her marital home. Should I give it to her, dispose of it, or keep it in the hope that she realizes her error and comes back home?

ANSWER:

If the items were bought for her and given to her already, then she is the owner of the items. As such, it will be necessary that you should hand it over to her. However, had you bought it for her but did not give it to her, then the items do not belong to her; it is still in your ownership. You are at liberty to do whatever you wish with it.
