Jannati or Jahannami
Question:-
The Hadith states that a woman who leaves this world whilst her husband is pleased with her, may enter Jannah from any of its eight doors. Is it correct to say that, on the contrary, if she leaves this world whilst the husband is displeased with her, then she will go to Jahannam? What if the husband is at fault?
In a similar manner, the narration states that, Jannah lies under the feet of the mother. So, if the man doesn’t serve his mother and look after her, then will he go to Jahannam?
Answer:-
The decision of being entered into Jannah or Jahannam lies solely with Allah Ta’ala. Therefore, we are in no position to decide whether a person is from amongst the people of Jannah, or Jahannam. A person may be an evil person but he or she could have sincerely repented in solitude, or pleased Allah Ta’ala by carrying out some good deed and as a result, He enters them into Jannah. Allah is the owner of the day of judgement and not bound by any laws or regulations, hence, He may enter whomsoever He wishes into Jannah, and take whomsoever He wishes to task.
The narration of Jannah being under the feet of the mother is to encourage the child to make an effort to obey and please their mothers and take her Duaas. Similarly, a woman that fulfils the rights of the husband and pleases him will enter Jannah. This narration also serves as encouragement for the wife to fulfil the rights of the husband and thereby please him. Now, if a person doesn’t obey his mother, and similarly, if a wife doesn’t obey her husband, then indeed this will be a great loss and means of regret for them, but we cannot say with certainty that they will be doomed to Jahannam, as this is a matter known to Allah alone.
In conclusion, even if the husband is wrong, the wife should ensure that she fulfils her obligation towards him. He will be held accountable in the court of Allah Ta’ala for not fulfilling her rights or oppressing her, but she should not wrong him by violating his rights. We hope this clarifies the matter.
