QUESTION:
Is it permissible to use UV LIGHT insect zappers in a butchery, or in other settings? Cleanliness and having a sterile environment is important. Spraying Doom and using other chemicals are not ideal due to contamination of meat.
ANSWER:
The Kitaabs of Fiqh state that if there is no way of getting rid of insects (that are causing inconvenience) except by using an apparatus such as the UV light, then usage of the UV light will be permitted due to necessity. However, if it is possible to get rid of the insects without using the UV light, then using the UV light will not be permitted. Therefore, it is necessary to make enquiries for an alternative before making use of the UV light. [Re:- Aap Ke Masaa’il Aur Unka Hal Pg.500 Vol.5]
