QUESTION:
Is it permissible to listen to a recording of the Quraan Shareef while relaxing and before sleeping?
ANSWER:
It is recorded in Fataawa Hindiyyah that one should face the Qiblah whilst reciting the Quraan Sharif as honouring the Quraan Sharif and Fiqh is Waajib. It is recorded in Kifaayatul Mufti that one’s interaction with the Quraan Sharif should be of honour and respect, and not of disrespect and humiliation. [Re:- Kifaayatul Mufti Pg.492 Vol.2] Also, amongst the etiquettes of the Quraan Sharif is that one should sit with respect whilst maintaining concentration and devotion. Keeping the above in mind, it is best that one sits in a respectable manner and listens to the Quraan Sharif being recited. However, if this is not possible due to tiredness and one therefore listens attentively whilst lying in bed, then it will be fundamentally permitted as the Quraan Sharif permits one to engage in Zikrullah whilst standing, sitting, and lying on one’s side. Notwithstanding the above, it is best that one sits with honour and listens to the Quraan Sharif being recited.
