QUESTION:
Is it permissible to make Dhikr while sitting in a gathering where Ahadeeth is being recited? I was informed that it is unacceptable to make Dhikr while Taleem is taking place.
ANSWER:
While listening to the Ahadith of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam being recited, one should listen attentively. It is as though we are in the company of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and he is addressing us. Hence, one should not engage in Zikrullah at such a time. Similarly, when sitting in the company of one’s Sheikh (for males) and he is addressing us, one should not engage in Zikrullah.
