Question:-
Kindly advise with regard to the permissibility of Dua in the following scenarios mentioned below:
1) Dua in Sujood in both Arabic and English, in Nafl Salaah.
2) Dua in Sujood in both Arabic and English, in Fardh Salaah.
3) Dua before Salaam in Arabic and English, in Nafl Salaah.
4) Dua before Salaam in Arabic and English, in Fardh Salaah.
Answer:-
One is permitted to make Dua in Salaah, which are similar to the Duas of the Quraan and Hadith. If one makes Dua similar to the speech of people (in one’s own language) then one’s Salaah will be invalidated.
It is recorded in the Hadith, “Verily nothing from the speech of people is correct in this Salaah. It comprises of only Tasbeeh, Takbeer and Qiraat of the Quraan Sharif.” [Muslim – Hadith no.537 / 1199]
In conclusion, the Duas made in Salaah must be in the Arabic language which are similar to the Duas mentioned in the Quraan and Hadith. The Duas made in Salaah should not resemble the speech of people.
ثم جلس وقرأ التشهد ثم صلى على سيدنا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ثم دعا بما يشبه القرآن والسنة ثم سلم يمينا ويسارا (مراقي الفلاح ص109 ج1)
One may recite Duas from the Quraan and Hadith in the Sajdah of Nafl Salaah. As for the Fardh Salaah, one should suffice on reciting the Tasbeehaat of Sajdah only. The lengthy Duas of Qawmah and Jalsa should also be recited in Nafl Salaah. [Re:- Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah Pg.77 Vol.12]
وكذا لا يأتي في ركوعه وسجوده بغير التسبيح على المذهب —ينهى عن القراءة في الركوع والسجود وعدم كونه مسنونا لا ينافي الجواز (شامي ص505 ج1 كراچی)
Before making Salaam, after reciting Durood in the final posture of the Fardh and Nafl Salaah, one may recite Duas similar to those mentioned in the Quraan and Hadith in the Arabic language only.
