Accepted Duas

Jul 15, 2026 | Duaas

QUESTION:

I miss Salaah regularly and have many Qadhaa to perform. However, I have noticed that my Duas appear to be readily accepted. I am a very sinful person and despite sometimes taking vows in lieu of my Duas being accepted, even without this intervention, my Duas are answered. Please help me reconcile between carrying the weight of a major sin and yet, having my Duas being answered.

ANSWER:

The condition of a believer should always be between the fear of Allah Ta’ala and hope in Allah Ta’ala. The feeling you are experiencing is a sign of a heart that is alive. Regarding Dua, certain actions that lead to Dua being accepted are just means and methods to help get your Dua answered; however, Allah Ta’ala can respond to His servant’s Dua as He wishes. Allah Ta’ala says in Surah Ghaafir (40:60):

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ

“Call upon Me, I will respond to you.”

Imam Al Qurtubi Rahimahullah writes under this Ayah that, there is no condition attached for a Dua to be answered.

Also, the Ulama have written that Taubah is a means for one’s Duas to be accepted. The fact that you’re regretting committing sins and missing Salaah, is part of Taubah. Together with that, you should make a concerted effort at the soonest to perform your Qadhaa Salaah.

Furthermore, we cannot forget the warning of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam where he says in a Hadith, which occurs in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad Rahimahullah:

“If you see Allah Ta’ala granting a servant the things he loves from this world while he continues to persist in his sins, then it is only Istidraaj (Istidraaj/ إستدراج refers to a divine ‘lure’ or “trap” where a person is given continuous worldly success while they are being disobedient. It is often described as Allah Ta’ala granting someone everything they want to lead them further into error before a sudden punishment).”

Then Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam recited the following verse:

فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا  فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا أَخَذْنَاهُم بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُم مُّبْلِسُونَ

So, when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in what they were given, We seized them suddenly, and at once they were in despair.” (Surah Al An’aam)

Let us turn to Allah Ta’ala totally and make a firm intention to leave all that which Allah Ta’ala and His Rasool Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam dislike as Duas being accepted is no justification for abandoning the recovery of Qadhaa Salaah.
