Males adhering to the Shari’ee code of dressing

Question:-

Please advise what the dress code for Muslim males is, especially older males in their 40’s or 50’s. Are they permitted to walk around wearing skinny jeans and T-shirts, that are tight-fitting and fashionable for teenagers and young men?

Answer:-

Muslims should emulate the Sunnah of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in all matters, which include one’s dressing. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam would generally wear a Kurta, loin cloth or pants, Topi, turban etc. Hence, one should refrain from donning the clothing of the Kuffar and Fussaq (transgressors of Shariah). Although it may not be Haraam to don such clothing, but it is definitely not the dressing of the righteous and pious people. [Re:-Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah Pg. 388 Vol.27]

In conclusion, there is no real difference between young men that have just reached the age of puberty and a middle-aged man, or a senior person. All should be dressed in accordance to the Sunnah and not in the attire of the Kuffar. Notwithstanding the above, a person who is ageing and has reached his forties or fifties should be more conscious, as the life of the hereafter is drawing closer for him, thus he should be concerned of pleasing Allah Ta’ala to a greater extent.

In conclusion, just as females are required to adhere to the Shari’ee code of dressing, so too are males also required to adhere to the Shari’ee code of dressing.
