Males Experiencing Discharge

Oct 21, 2026 | Ma'zoor, Salaah

QUESTION:

I would like to know all the Masaa’il regarding male discharge. For example, if one feels like during Wudhu or Salaah they have discharge, do they have to repeat the Wudhu/Salaah? What is the ruling if a male is unsure whether there was discharge while he was performing Salaah?

ANSWER:

From the outset, it will be difficult to explain each and every ruling regarding discharge. However, in principle, if one experiences continuous discharge for a complete Salaah time (to the extent that one is unable to find sufficient time to perform their Fardh Salaah in a state of purity), then one will be categorized as a ‘Ma’dhoor.’

For example, if one experiences continuous discharge from the start of Asr time until the expiry of Asr time, then one will be categorized as a ‘Ma’dhoor’ in Shariah. In this case, one should wait until approximately 15 minutes before the expiry of the Salaah time and then perform Wudhu and Salaah, even though the discharge may be continuously emerging.

Furthermore, if one feels discharge emitting while making Wudhu or performing Salaah, and is certain about it, then one will be required to recommence the Wudhu or repeat the Salaah (after washing off the impurity and making a new Wudhu). However, if one is in a doubt whether there was discharge while he was performing Salaah or not, then one should completely ignore this doubt.

Also, it seems from your query that you are suffering from doubts. It should be borne in mind that the objective of Shaytaan is to avert you from the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala and one way of achieving this, is by creating these doubts and suspicions in one’s mind.
The simple solution is to totally ignore these Wasaawis (doubts) created by Shaytaan. The more you will entertain these doubts, the more Shaytaan will try to distract you.
Furthermore, it is imperative to understand that the various Ahkaam (regulations) of Deen are not based on mere “feelings”. It is based on certainty. Hence, you should not pay attention to any of these thoughts.

In conclusion, we advise you to make Dua to Allah Ta’ala to assist you in overcoming the whispers of Shaytaan and recite the following Dua in abundance:

‘My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the Shayaateen.’
