QUESTION:
At times, government departments have a program to launch a project etc. and religious leaders are called to open the program with a Dua or prayer. Thereafter, after the slot, the religious leaders have the option to stay in the program or leave. Is it allowed for a Maulana to attend and present at such a program, and leave immediately after his slot?
ANSWER:
If the gathering comprises of males only, and there aren’t any other wrongs perpetrated, then it will be permissible for the Alim to address the congregation or make Dua with the intention of giving Dawat to the masses. However, he should leave the gathering immediately after the program. He may be contacted privately later if any assistance is required by the congregants, or if any person is inclined towards Islam. If there is fear of getting caught up in any wrong then he should refrain from attending.
