Muslimah Marrying a Kaafir Male

May 9, 2024 | Aqeedah

Q1. If a Muslim woman married a non-Muslim man, will she lose her Imaan or not?

A1.The Ulama have written that by virtue of marriage, there is natural love between the spouses even though the husband may be a Kaafir or Mushrik. This will result in the heart of the wife inclining towards Kufr, or the hatred of Kufr will leave her heart. Consequently, one will get involved in Kufr and lose his/her Imaan. This will result in them being entered into Jahannam. Therefore, the Quraan states that the Mushrikeen invite towards the fire, whilst Allah Ta’ala calls towards Jannah and His forgiveness with His permission. Allah Ta’ala explains His verses so that people act upon the advice. [Re:- Ma’ariful Quraan Pg.484 Vol.1] In conclusion, if one regards it impermissible to marry a Kaafir man, then one will not lose their Imaan, but the Kufr of the male will eventually cause one to lose their Imaan and be doomed to Jahannam. However, if one considers marrying a Kaafir as permissible, then one loses their Imaan immediately.

Q2. Now the family persons (father, mother, brother, sister etc., )should maintain relationship with her or should break relationship as per Sharia.

2. The family should try to encourage her to end the relationship and sincerely repent. If there is hope of her repenting, then it will be acceptable to maintain a relationship temporarily until the matter is resolved. However, if she refuses to terminate the Haraam relationship and life is just going on as usual, then it is necessary to end all forms of relationships with her. This is the explanation of the Dua recited in Qunoot:

ونخلع ونترك من يفجرك
We disassociate and leave those who disobey you.

ALLAH TA’ALA ALONE IN HIS INFINITE KNOWLEDGE KNOWS BEST!
