QUESTION:
I would like to know if a young boy aged 11-12 years old who is not Baaligh, may call out the Adhaan? Would the Adhaan be valid if the boy called it out after nobody else went forward to call out the Adhaan?
ANSWER:
If a child of understanding age calls out the Adhaan, then the Adhaan is valid without any abhorrence, but the Adhaan called out by a Baaligh person is superior. Hence, in the queried scenario, the Adhaan of the 12-year-old is valid and there is no need to repeat the Adhaan. [Re: Fataawa Uthmaaniyyah Vol:2 Pg:58-59]
فَإِنَّ أَذَانَ الصَّبِيِّ الْعَاقِلِ، صَحِيحٌ مِنْ غَيْرِ كَرَاهَةٍ؛ فِي ظَاهِرِ الرِّوَايَةِ، وَلَكِنَّ أَذَانَ الْبَالِغِ أَفْضَلُ، وامَّا أَذَانُ الصَّبِيِّ الَّذِي لَا يَعْقِلُ، لَا يَجُوزُ وَيُعَادُ وَكَذَا الْمَجْنُونُ وَالسَّكْرَانُ (النهاية ج٢ص١٢٩)
أَذَانُ الصَّبِيِّ الْعَاقِلِ صَحِيحٌ مِنْ غَيْرِ كَرَاهَةٍ فِي ظَاهِرِ الرِّوَايَةِ وَلَكِنْ أَذَانُ الْبَالِغِ أَفْضَلُ وَأَذَانُ الصَّبِيِّ الَّذِي لَا يَعْقِلُ لَا يَجُوزُ وَيُعَادُ وَكَذَا الْمَجْنُونُ (الفتاوي الهندية ج١ص٥٤)
