Nikaah Via Video Call

QUESTION:

A groom and bride reside in different countries. Can the bride, in the presence of either 2 males, or 1 male and 2 female witnesses, conduct the Nikaah via video call with groom?

ANSWER:

For the validity of Nikaah, the Ijaab (offer) and Qabool (acceptance) must be done in the same gathering, in the presence of two male or one male and two females, who must be Muslim, Baligh and sane witnesses. Since the groom is not in the same gathering as the bride and the witnesses,
Nikaah will not be valid.

Note: The official view of Darul Ifta Ibn Masood is that photography and videography is impermissible. Therefore, a person should not adopt impermissible means for entering into a great blessing of Nikaah.
