QUESTION:
Is Neurolinguistic Programming permissible in Islam ?
ANSWER:
NLP is where they tap into a person and thereby change their mental and emotional behaviour patterns. Part of the treatment includes mild hypnosis giving the patient such freedom that they aren’t worried about who they are or what they’re doing. Patients are also made to remember their past errors, hurt, etc. whereas we have not been created to remember our past. We are required to be positive and move forward instead of living in the past. We do not live with grudges and animosity, rather we forgive and forget as taught to us by Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam on the conquest of Makkah. Similarly, we repent for our sins and endeavor to be better people. In conclusion, the concept of Neuro Linguistic Programming is like Body Talk, Emotional Freedom Therapy, etc. which are not permissible, hence, we advise abstention.
