Noor And Tajalli

QUESTION:

What does “Tajalli” or Allah Ta’ala’s “Noor” mean? Is Noor a quality of Allah Ta’ala or is it His creation? Please also explain what is meant by Noor descending on the Ka’bah Sharif?

ANSWER:

“Tajalli” or, the “Noor of Allah Ta’ala”, is a link showing a uniqueness or specialty similar to the Ka’bah Sharif, and the Masjid being referred to as “the House of Allah Ta’ala”. This term of possession is to emphasise its special nature in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. The Noor descending on the Ka’bah Sharif is of this same nature. As for the Name of Allah Ta’ala, “An-Noor”, this is from His Sifaat which we believe in without understanding it’s reality. Noor is the Sifat of Allah Ta’ala while Tajalli is the manifestation.

وتجلى معناه ظهر ; من قولك : جلوت العروس أي أبرزتها . وجلوت السيف أبرزته من الصدأ ; جلاء فيهما . وتجلى الشيء انكشف . وقيل : تجلى أمره وقدرته ; قاله القرطبي  وغيره(تفسير القرطبي سورة الأعراف ١٤٣)

{ فلما تجلى ربه } اي ظهر من نوره قدر نصف أنملة الخنصر كما في حديث صححه الحاكم (تفسير الجلالين  1 / 167)
