Performing Salaah in the incorrect direction
Question:-
We were performing Salaah at our Musallah in the incorrect direction for a number of years. It is only lately that we realized that we were 20 degrees off the actual Qiblah. What is the status of our previous Salaah? Does it have to be repeated?
Answer:-
In the queried scenario, the Salaah performed will be valid, as the direction in which Salaah was being performed was less than 45 degrees off (from the actual direction of Qiblah.) If you had exceeded the 45 degree mark, then only would Salaah have to be repeated. Now that the correct direction is known, Salaah should be performed in that direction.
