QUESTION:
From the age of 13/14 I have been addicted to pornography and masturbation. I now want to get married, but I fear going into a marriage with this problem. What can I do to overcome this? How do I repair whatever damage I have caused to myself?
ANSWER:
1. Firstly, you should be grateful to Almighty Allah for granting you the understanding that you are spiritually ill and that you require treatment. There is a cure to every ailment but on the condition that one is sincere and follows the required prescription.
2. You should get rid of the device on which you are viewing pornography. As long as you keep the device with you, you will be tempted to access the porn sites and then masturbate, hence as a temporary measure, you should get rid of the device.
3. Daily perform two Rakaats Salaah (with a combined intention of Salaatul Haajat and Taubah) when you are free from all activities; thereafter recite 100 times Durood Sharif, 500 times La Hawla Wala Quwwata Illah Billah, followed by 100 times Durood Sharif. Finally, engage in Dua begging Allah Ta’ala to cure you from the illness. This Amal should be carried out for a period of 40 days consecutively. You should also beg Allah for forgiveness for your error over the years, and He is Most-Forgiving.
4. Update us on your progress as you go along.
5. We make Dua that Allah Ta’ala cures you and us from all spiritual ailments and blesses us with the ability of obeying all His commands. Ameen!
