Deen was perfected and completed during the lifetime of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. On the occasion of the final Hajj of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the verses of Surah Maa’idah were revealed, wherein Allah Ta’ala clearly states that Deen has been perfected and Allah is pleased with Islam as a Deen for us.
The path of Allah and His Rasul Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is absolutely clear and there is no room for any discussion in the Deen which was perfected by Allah Ta’ala. It is now merely a matter of conveying the message of Allah and His Rasul Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam to the masses. Allah Ta’ala reminds Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in the Quraan Sharif, that he is simply required to remind the people. It is then up to them whether they are willing to accept, or not.
Social media platforms and websites may be used to promote Deen, with the proviso that there aren’t any impermissible pictures, background music etc. or anything else impermissible attached to it, and there isn’t any option for readers to comment on the posts. Those that are sincere and genuine in their desire to acquire the knowledge of Deen, will benefit from the Islamic material posted by the Ulama-e-Haqq, without finding the need to comment on any posts, as their intention would be to make Amal and gain close proximity to their Creator.
However, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. are social platforms that allow readers the opportunity to upload their comments on posts. Many scholars, after posting their material, eagerly await positive responses and praises of their followers, which gives them a great deal of pleasure. This is an indication of one’s lack of sincerity. A sincere person wouldn’t worry about the praises of people but will instead be concerned with gaining the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala. Hence, he will propagate the message of Deen and thereafter turn to Allah Ta’ala begging Him for acceptance. The praises and comments of people wouldn’t affect him in the least, as his gaze is on his Creator.
Also, these social media platforms (such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc.) are full of pictures of both males and females displaying themselves, which attract the attention of the opposite gender and this is totally Haraam. Although one may be intending to log on to the account of a scholar to read his Islamic posts, he could (in the process) be tempted to look at these impermissible pictures and, as a result, end up destroying his Imaan instead of benefitting from the Islamic posts and literature. This brings us to the conclusion that, when impermissible means are utilized to promote Deen, then everything else but Deen will be promoted.
Many females post their comments on these platforms and the scholars then reply to them, with some of these discussions then becoming informal, casual, and of a friendly nature. It is natural that one will incline towards the opposite gender and perhaps, attain impermissible enjoyment in the discussion, if not more. Shaytaan knows exactly how to trap every person and would use different means (to trap his clients) according to their level and position. The scholar might be pleased that he is promoting and propagating Deen, whereas, he is totally trapped in the disobedience of Allah Ta’ala by engaging in enjoyable discussions with Ghair Mahram women, and these discussions can sometimes become flirtatious. Thus, Shaytaan trapped the scholar and got him involved in the worst type of sin in the name of Deen.
In conclusion, we fully disapprove of promoting Deen utilizing social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, etc. We should hold on to the ways and methods of our pious predecessors in propagating Deen. These personalities were very firm on the teachings of the Shariah and the Sunnah. They propagated Deen from the Masajid, Madrassahs and through publications. Some of them remained in their villages and never left except for Fardh Hajj, yet their knowledge spread throughout the world. This was the blessings of their sincerity. Hadrat Ebrahim Alaihis Salaam was commanded to announce the Hajj amongst the people at a time when Makkah Sharif was a barren land, yet Allah Ta’ala conveyed this message to the entire mankind. Perhaps, the Tablighi Jamaat has been one of the most successful groups in the world in propagating the message of Deen, yet none of the Haraam means of propagation is adopted by them. They strictly adhere to the way of propagation adopted by Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
In conclusion, our responsibility is to convey the message of Deen using only those means that are totally permissible in Shariah. The method that is most simple and closest to Sunnah will be most effective. The Ambiya Alaihimus Salaam conveyed the message of Deen using the simplest of examples as understood from the incident of Ebrahim Alaihis Salaam in Surah An’aam. He looked at the stars, moon, sun etc. and propagated the Oneness of Allah. May Allah Ta’ala guide us all. Ameen!
