Rain water causing Khuffain to become damp
Question:-
To what extent must leather socks be waterproof? If one walks in the rain and is able to feel a bit of dampness, will this invalidate the Wudhu?
Answer:-
The leather sock (Khuffain) must be such that it prevents water from reaching the body (feet). If the sock gets damp by walking in the rain, but the water doesn’t seep through and thereby reach the skin, then the sock will be considered as suitable for Masah. The Wudhu does not have to be renewed due to dampness being felt.
N.B. The Fuqaha have written that Masah on leather socks is valid if the following conditions are found:

The sock must be worn after washing the feet.

It must cover the ankles.

It must of such a nature that one is able to walk in it. Masah will not be valid upon Khuffain made of glass, wood or iron.

The sock must not be torn equivalent to the amount of three baby toes.

It must remain on the feet without it being tied.
-
It must be so thick that it doesn’t allow water to seep through and reach the feet.
-
If one whose foot has been amputated intends making Masah then the front portion of his foot (equivalent to the amount of three small toes) must be present.
ويشترط لجواز المسح على الخفين سبعة شروط:
الأول: لبسهما بعد غسل الرجلين ولو قبل كمال الوضوء إذا أتمه قبل حصول ناقض للوضوء.
والثاني: سترهما للكعبين.
والثالث: إمكان متابعة المشي فيهما فلا يجوز على خف من زجاج أو خشب أو حديد
والرابع: خلو كل منهما عن خرق قدر ثلاث أصابع من أصغر أصابع القدم.
والخامس: استمساكهما على الرجلين من غير شد.
والسادس: منعهما وصول الماء إلى الجسد.
والسابع: أن يبقى من مقدم القدم قدر ثلاث أصابع من أصغر أصابع اليد فلو كان فاقدا مقدم قدمه لا يمسح على خفه ولو كان عقب القدم موجودا.
