Question:-
Kindly advise on the permissibility of two parties (i.e. buyer and seller) entering into an agreement whereby the purchaser agrees to purchase an item from a particular supplier for a fixed period of time.
Answer:-
If both parties voluntarily entered into such an agreement (without any coercion), then there is no harm in doing so. In this instance, the agreement should be honoured and the purchaser should fulfil his promise by purchasing from the seller (with whom he enacted the agreement) for the stipulated period of time. Allah Ta’ala states, “O you who have Imaan!, Fulfil your pledges.” [Surah Maa’idah, Verse 1]
If the purchaser now wishes to purchase the same item from another supplier, then he should request the previous supplier to free him of his obligation. He may then purchase from other suppliers as well. Our Rizq (sustenance) is from Allah Ta’ala hence, the previous supplier shouldn’t feel threatened in any way by his customer wanting to purchase from other suppliers.
