Quraan Apps On Phones

QUESTION:

Can we read with a stylus on a phone without Wudhu? And are we allowed to hold the phone without touching the screen without Wudhu?

ANSWER:

At the onset, it is best to recite the Quraan Majeed from the actual Mushaf. Notwithstanding the above, it will be permissible to touch the phone without Wudhu, however, it will not be permissible to touch the actual text that appears on the screen of the phone without wudhu.

(قوله مس مصحف) (قوله أي ما فيه آية) لكن لا يحرم في غير المصحف الا بالمكتوب: أي موضع الكتابة.
(شامي ج١ ص١٧٣)

The person without Wudhu may use a separate item (not connected to the body) such as a stylus.

قوله:: ومسه إلا بغلافه أي تمنع الحائض مس القرآن لما روى الحاكم في المستدرك وقال صحيح الإسناد عن حكيم بن حزام قال لما بعثني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى اليمن قال” لا تمس القرآن إلا وأنت طاهر” واستدلوا له أيضا بقوله تعالى: {لا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ} (الواقعة:79( – البحر الرائق شرح كنز الدقائق 1/348 – مكتبة رشيدية)
