Question:-
Is it permissible for a person to slaughter an animal on behalf of the entire Ummah (both the deceased and living), including those who cannot afford Qurbani?
Answer:
It is permissible for one to make Qurbani on behalf of the entire Ummah which includes the deceased and the living. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam made Qurbani of two sheep, one was for himself and the other was for his Ummah. The poor individuals that are unable to make Qurbani will also be included in the Ummah. Hence, the act of carrying out Qurbani for the Ummah is proven from the Hadith.
وهو ما صح عنه – صلى الله عليه وسلم – أنه ضحى بكبشين أملحين أحدهما عنه والآخر عن أمته (رد المحتار ص596 ج2)
من ضحى عن الميت يصنع كما يصنع في أضحية نفسه من التصدق والأكل , والأجر للميت والملك للذابح. (الدر المختار ص326 ج6)
