Raising the hands at the time of Takbeer-e-Tahreemah

Apr 12, 2022 | Salaah

Question:-

I have a habit of holding my hands to my ears immediately after Iqaamah (as a Muqtadee), and when the Imaam completes the Takbeer-e-Tahreemah, I proceed to fold my hands. My intention is to get the Takbeer-e-Tahreemah and not waste a single second unnecessarily. Is this a correct practice? Or should I keep my hands on my sides and only lift them when the Imaam completes the Takbeer?

I follow a similar habit when performing my own Salaah, that is, I hold my hands to my ears, and drop my hands on reciting the Takbeer. So, instead of lifting my hands at the time of uttering the Takbeer-e-Tahreemah, my hands are already up. Is this correct, or should I keep my hands by my side until I commence the Takbeer?

Answer:-

There are 3 views in regards to raising the hands when saying the Takbeer-e-Tahreemah:

  1. To recite the Takbeer first before raising the hands.

  2. To say the Takbeer whilst raising the hands. One should start raising the hands when commencing the Takbeer and should terminate when the Takbeer terminates.

  3. To say the Takbeer after raising the hands and thereafter the hands should be tied. This is the preferred view.

Re:- Ahsanul Fataawa Pg.19 Vol.3

In your particular instance, you raise your hands first (keeping it at your earlobes) and thereafter say the Takbeer (after the Imaam) and tie your hands. This method is in order as recorded in number 3, where the Takbeer is recited after raising the hands. The same ruling is applicable to your individual Salaah as well. However, you should be careful that you do not complete the Takbeer-e-Tahreemah before the Imaam in adopting this method; rather you should complete the Takbeer-e-Tahreemah after the Imaam.
