Question:-
Is it permissible to give Zakaat or Sadaqatul Fitr in the form of a grocery hamper to a minor whose parents are non-Muslim?
The child lives with his parents and is supported by them.
The groceries will be consumed by the Muslims and non-Muslims of the house according to my understanding.
Answer:-
If the minor is of such an age that he is able to transact (by going to the shop and buying goods on his own), and his parents are poor (who do not own Nisaab), then it will be permissible to assist the minor with Zakaat and Sadaqatul Fitr hampers. Once the minor becomes the owner of the goods, he is free to utilize it as he wishes, irrespective of whether he uses it himself or shares it with the rest of his family that are not Muslims, as he is the owner of the goods.
