Reciting Surah Yaaseen In The Qabrastaan

QUESTION:

Are there virtues mentioned regarding reciting Surah Yaaseen at the Qabr of the deceased, or is it better to recite surah Yaseen at home for Esaale Thawaab?

ANSWER:

One may recite any portion of the Quraan Majeed and convey the reward of the recitation to the deceased. However, the following Surahs have been specifically mentioned for recitation at the graveyard:

1. Surah Yaaseen.

2. Surah Faatihah.

3. The beginning verses of Surah Baqarah and the concluding verses of Surah Baqarah.

4. Aayatul Kursi.

5. Surah Mulk.

6. Surah Takaathur.

7. Surah Ikhlaas.

Regarding the virtue of reciting Surah Yaseen in the Qabrastaaan (graveyard), there is a narration that says that when a person recites Surah Yaseen in the Qabrastaaan (graveyard), Allah lessens the punishment from the inmates of the grave on that day, and it will become a means of the reciter gaining great rewards.

وَلَا بَأْسَ بِقِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ عِنْدَ الْقُبُورِ وَرُبَّمَا تَكُونُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ غَيْرِهِ وَيَجُوزُ أَنْ يُخَفِّفَ اللَّهُ عَنْ أَهْلِ الْقُبُورِ شَيْئًا مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ أَوْ يَقْطَعَهُ عِنْدَ دُعَاءِ الْقَارِئِ وَتِلَاوَتِهِ وَفِيهِ وَرَدَ آثَارُ «مَنْ دَخَلَ الْمَقَابِرَ فَقَرَأَ سُورَةَ يس خَفَّفَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمئِذٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ بِعَدَدِ مَنْ فِيهَا حَسَنَاتٌ» (البحر الرائق 2/210)

( ويقرأ يس ) لما ورد من دخل المقابر فقرأ سورة يس خفف الله عنهم يومئذ وكان له بعدد من فيها حسنات بحر  وفي شرح اللباب ويقرأ من القرآن ماتيسر له من الفاتحة وأول البقرة إلى المفلحون وآية الكرسي (البقرة 225) و{ آمن الرسول } (البقرة 285) وسورة يس وتبارك الملك وسورة التكاثر والإخلاص اثني عشر مرة أو عشرا أو سبعا أو ثلاثا ثم يقول اللهم أوصل ثواب ما قرأناه إلى فلان أو إليهم
