Repeating the Salaah performed whilst seated on a plane

Question:-

A person reads Salaah on the plane. However, due to turbulence, the Salaah is read sitting and not standing. If the Salaah is repeated after the time expires, will the Salaah be regarded as Qadha?

Answer:-

If the Fardh Salaah is performed whilst seated on a plane, whether due to turbulence or the flight attendants not permitting one to perform Salaah whilst standing, the Salaah will have to be repeated. The repetition of the Salaah will not be considered as Qadhaa. The reason for repeating the Salaah is that the excuse for not performing Salaah whilst standing was from the side of the human being, hence, it will be Waajib to repeat the Salaah. If the excuse was from the side of Allah Ta’ala (such as being afflicted with illness), then the Salaah will not have to be repeated.

رَجُلٌ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ فَمَنَعَهُ إنْسَانٌ عَنْ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ بِوَعِيدٍ قِيلَ يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَتَيَمَّمَ وَيُصَلِّيَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدَ الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَ مَا زَالَ عَنْهُ؛ لِأَنَّ هَذَا عُذْرٌ جَاءَ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْعِبَادِ فَلَا يُسْقِطُ فَرْضَ الْوُضُوءِ عَنْهُ اهـ.فَعُلِمَ مِنْهُ أَنَّ الْعُذْرَ إنْ كَانَ مِنْ قِبَلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى لَا تَجِبُ الْإِعَادَةُ (البحر الرائق ص149 ج1)
