Salaah Made Qadhaa Due To Tuition
QUESTION:
A person goes for tuition classes at a Hindu’s house. She says her Maghrib Salaah becomes Qadhaa as her home is far from the tution centre. By the time she leaves her class, the time for Maghrib ends.
My advice would be to explain to her in a gentle manner that Salaah is not optional. She should make Wudhu at home and carry a prayer mat with her. She can pray in the courtyard or some place nearby. Would this be suitable? Please advise
ANSWER:
From the outset, it should be stated that Salaah is amongst the most fundamental aspects in Islam after Imaan. As such, there is no compromise to allow one’s Fardh Salaah to become Qadhaa.
Yes, your suggestion is viable. You may tell her to go for tuition with Wudhu and a Musallah (prayer mat) and she may perform her Salaah in one place which is clean. If this raises an issue with the Hindu, then the best would be for her to change her tuition times or to seek another tutor.
Furthermore, you should encourage her to read the Chapter of Salaah in Fadhaail e A’amaal which will conscientize her regarding her Salaah.
Also, consider the following Ahaadith highlighting the importance of Salaah:
عَنْ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: مَنْ فَاتَتْهُ صَلَاةٌ فَكَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ.
رواه ابن حبان في صحيح
Hadhrat Naufal bin Mu’aawiya Radiallahu Anhu reports that he heard Rasulullaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saying, “The person who has missed a single Salaah is like one who has lost all his family and wealth.”
NOTE: Salaah is usually missed when a person is pre-occupied with his family members or he is in pursuit of money. According to this Hadith, the loss sustained in missing a Salaah is as great as losing one’s entire family and property and being left all by one’s self. If we are warned by some reliable person about the presence of robbers on a certain road and that people are being robbed and killed during the night, who will be brave enough to travel there even during the day. Not only once or twice, but Rasulullaah Sallallhu Alaihi Wasallam has warned us so many times regarding the neglect of Salaah, and despite us believing that he was the true Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the warnings still fall on deaf ears.
