Witr Salaah At The Time Of Tahajjud

QUESTION:

If one is performing Witr Salaah during the last portion of the night, is it preferable to perform Tahajjud first, or Witr first?

ANSWER:

If a person is confident that he will wake up during the last portion of the night to perform Tahajjud, then it is preferable for him to perform his Tahajjud first and thereafter perform Witr, so that Witr is the final Salaah of his night. However, if he is not confident that he will wake up for Tahajjud, then he should perform his Witr before going to sleep. He should not delay it until the last portion of the night as there is a possibility that he may miss Witr.

Therefore, if one is certain or has a reliable habit of waking up for Tahajjud, then delaying Witr until after Tahajjud is preferable, otherwise one should perform Witr before sleeping.

حدثنا مسدد: نا يحيى بن سعيد، عن عبيد الله: حدثني نافع، عن عبد الله بن عمر، عن النبي – صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ -، قال: ((اجعلوا آخر صلاتكم بالليل وتراً)) .

وخرّجه مسلم.

وخرّج –أيضا – من حديث الأسود، عن عائشة، ان النبي – صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – كان يصلي من الليل حتى يكون آخر صلاته الوتر.

وخرّجه أبو داود –مطولاً.

جعل الوتر آخر صلاة الليل يستفاد منه فوائد عديدة.

بَاب مَنْ خَافَ أَنْ لَا يَقُومَ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ فَلْيُوتِرْ أَوَّلَهُ

١٦٢ – (٧٥٥) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ. حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ جابر؛ قال:

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وَسَلَّمَ “مَنْ خَافَ أَنْ لَا يَقُومَ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ فَلْيُوتِرْ أَوَّلَهُ. وَمَنْ طَمِعَ أَنْ يَقُومَ آخِرَهُ فَلْيُوتِرْ آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ. فَإِنَّ صَلَاةَ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ مَشْهُودَةٌ. وَذَلِكَ أَفْضَلُ”. وَقَالَ أَبُو معاوية: محضورة.

(مشهودة) أي محضورة، تحضرها ملائكة الرحمة.
