QUESTION:
What is the status of wearing a Topi while performing Salaah?
ANSWER:
We should try to emulate the teachings of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in every aspect of our lives. By following the Sunnah, one will be successful in this world and the hereafter. Allah Ta’ala states in the Quraan Sharif:
قُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
Say (O Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam), If you love Allah then follow me, Allah will then love you and forgive your sins. Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Wearing the Topi is considered as a Sunnah of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, and is from amongst the salient features of Islam. It is recorded in a narration of Tabrani:
كان رسولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَلْبَسُ قَلَنْسُوَةً بيضاءَ (المعجم الكبير للطبراني: ١٣٩٢٠)
Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam would wear a white Topi.
The Fuqaha have stated that it is Makrooh (abhorred) to perform Salaah without a Topi.

وكره…… (وصلاته حاسرا) اي كاشفا (الدر المختار ج١ص٦٤١)
