Performing Salaah whilst sitting during pregnancy
Question:-
Is it permissible for a woman in her 7th month of pregnancy to sit and read her Fardh Salaah?
Answer:-
It is Fardh for both males and females to stand and perform their Salaah. If the standing posture is omitted without a valid reason, then Salaah will be invalid. [Re:- Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah Pg. 255 Vol.9]
The Fuqaha have written that if it is difficult for one to stand and perform Salaah, or one is able to stand in Salaah but unable to make Sajdah, then it is not obligatory upon him to stand and perform Salaah. However, in this instance (where one can stand in Salaah but is unable to perform Sajdah), then one may perform Salaah whilst standing with indications or one may sit and perform Salaah.
Similarly, if a person stands and performs Salaah and he may suffer from urine drops, or, his Satr may be exposed to the extent that it prevents him from performing Salaah, or, one is unable to recite Quraan Sharif whilst standing, whereas he will not experience these difficulties if he performs Salaah whilst sitting, then it will be Waajib upon him to sit and perform Salaah. Also, if one sits and performs Salaah then he is able to complete his Salaah, whereas if he stands, then he will not be able to complete his Salaah, then in this instance too, it will obligatory upon him to sit and perform his Salaah.
Now coming to your question, if you are experiencing any form of difficulty as explained above, then you are excused from standing and performing Salaah. However, if any of the above difficulties are not experienced, then it will be necessary to stand and perform Salaah.
