Spouses for unmarried people in Jannah

Feb 13, 2024 | Nikaah

Question:-

I’ve heard that indeed Allah has written a spouse for everyone, is this genuinely true? Is it mentioned in the Quraan or Hadith?  I haven’t really read anywhere that we are promised a spouse in the world. I know there’s a spouse promised in Jannah. So from a worldly point of view, are we promised that Allah will find us a spouse in this world?

Answer:-

We were unable to locate any narration that states that every individual is promised a spouse in the world. We have seen people that left the world without getting married, hence it is not necessary that every person gets married in this world.

Yes, it is recorded in some Kitaabs that a woman that left the world without being married (without a spouse), then Allah will be her guardian and get her married in Jannah to those individuals that never had a wife (in the world). It seems from exploring the Quraan Sharif and Hadith Sharif that every woman in Jannah will have a husband due to certain reasons.

1. There will be many men in Jannah with more than one wife (from humankind.) Imaam Bukhari and Muslim Rahimahumullah have quoted the narration of Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam stated in regard to the first group of people to enter Jannah, that every one of them will have two wives, the marrow of their shin can be seen under the flesh (indicating to extreme beauty which cannot be understood in the world.) Imaam Nawawi and others have stated that these two wives will from the human beings and not from amongst the Hurs. They will be worthy of entering Jannah due to the grace of Allah and their righteous deeds.

2. It is recorded in some narrations of Muslim Sharif,

There won’t be any unmarried people in Jannah.

Qadhi Iyaadh has mentioned that the word ‘Azb’ refers to both males and females. This clearly indicates that every Jannati will have a spouse whether it is male or female.

3. Nikah is such a thing that is desired by both males and females. The Quraan Sharif states,

And in Jannah there shall be whatever the heart desires and whatever pleases the eye

An unmarried woman desires to have a spouse, hence her desire will be fulfilled in Jannah. In conclusion, every individual will have a spouse in Jannah Insha’Allah, but there is no guarantee that one will have a spouse in this world.
