Status Of Khilaafah

QUESTION:

Please advise on the importance of Khilaafah in Islam, and what is its status?

ANSWER:

It is Waajib to have a Khalifah and establish an Islamic Khilaafah, due to the consensus of the Sahaaba Radiallahu Anhum.

However, in order to be Khulafaa (successors)  and get the upper hand in order to obtain a Khilaafah, true Imaan and righteous deeds are required. It is in this very spirit that Tablighi Jamaat places great emphasis on strengthening the Imaan of individuals and encouraging them towards virtuous actions. When the Imaan of the Muslim Ummah is firmly established, then, by the Will of Allah, the restoration of Islamic Khilaafah will be granted. Notwithstanding the above, while the strengthening of Imaan is undoubtedly imperative, it is regrettable that the Ummah is negligent in making any effort to establish the Khilaafat, and consequently, is sinful for relinquishing this Waajib obligation. The consequence of not having a proper leader and standing army is why the Ummah is being pulverized today.

Accordingly, each one of us must reflect and ask, ‘What contribution am I making towards this cause?’ At present, our foremost duty is to work upon our own Imaan, the Imaan of our families, and that of the wider Ummah. Alongside this effort, it is imperative that we nurture within ourselves a sincere yearning for the return of Khilaafah and remain steadfast in making abundant Dua for its establishment.

اعْلَم أَيْضا أَن الصَّحَابَة رضوَان الله تَعَالَى عَلَيْهِم أَجْمَعِينَ أَجمعُوا على أَن نصب الإِمَام بعد انْقِرَاض زمن النُّبُوَّة وَاجِب بل جَعَلُوهُ أهم الْوَاجِبَات حَيْثُ اشتغلوا بِهِ عَن دفن رَسُول الله صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم وَاخْتِلَافهمْ فِي التَّعْيِين لَا يقْدَح فِي الْإِجْمَاع الْمَذْكُور ولتلك الأهمية لما توفّي رَسُول الله صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم قَامَ أَبُو بكر رَضِي الله عَنهُ خَطِيبًا كَمَا سَيَأْتِي فَقَالَ أَيهَا النَّاس من كَانَ يعبد مُحَمَّدًا فَإِن مُحَمَّدًا قد مَاتَ وَمن كَانَ يعبد الله فَإِن الله حَيّ لَا يَمُوت وَلَا بُد لهَذَا الْأَمر مِمَّن يقوم بِهِ فانظروا وهاتوا آراءكم فَقَالُوا صدقت نَنْظُر فِيهِ

ثمَّ ذَلِك الْوُجُوب عندنَا معشر أهل السّنة وَالْجَمَاعَة وَعند أَكثر الْمُعْتَزلَة بِالسَّمْعِ أَي من جِهَة التَّوَاتُر وَالْإِجْمَاع الْمَذْكُور وَقَالَ كثير بِالْعقلِ وَوجه ذَلِك الْوُجُوب أَنه صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم أَمر بِإِقَامَة الْحُدُود وسد الثغور وتجهيز الجيوش للْجِهَاد وَحفظ بَيْضَة الْإِسْلَام وَمَا لَا يتم الْوَاجِب الْمُطلق إِلَّا بِهِ وَإِن كَانَ مَقْدُورًا فَهُوَ وَاجِب وَلِأَن فِي نَصبه جلب مَنَافِع لَا تحصى وَدفع مضار لَا تستقصى وكل مَا كَانَ كَذَلِك يكون وَاجِبا
