Taking the names of people at the time of slaughtering
QUESTION:-
A person plans to make a Nafl Qurbani as Esaale-Thawaab with a share of a cow. When the cow is slaughtered, should the slaughterer take the name of each person whom the Nafl Qurbani is for, or will the name of the person carrying out the Nafl Qurbani be sufficient?
ANSWER:-
The Fuqaha have written that the Niyyah of the original purchaser is sufficient and Qurbani will be valid. Hence, it is not necessary that the slaughterer takes the name of every person on behalf of whom Qurbani is being made. The slaughterer should merely have an intention in his mind that he is slaughtering on behalf of all.
However, it is better to have the name of every person on every animal that is going to be slaughtered viz. “this animal is for so and so, whilst that is for so and so,” etc. but this is not a condition for the validity of the Qurbani.
