Taubah for killing one’s parents
Question:-
A person murdered his own parents and is now regretful over his actions. He has started changing his life. Will such a person be forgiven?
Answer:-
It is indeed a great wrong for one to take the life of his parents. In fact, one that takes the life of his parents has taken the life of such individuals that were the means of his very existence. It is inconceivable that a human being has stooped to such a low level that he is able to perpetrate such an evil. Allah Ta’ala has afforded great honour to the parents by mentioning the rights of parents immediately after mentioning His rights. Furthermore, one is commanded to deal in a good manner with his parents (in worldly matters) even though they may be non-Muslims. May Allah Ta’ala bless us with the understanding. Ameen!
Now, coming to your query, although the perpetrator has committed a serious error and an inconceivable act, the doors of repentance are always open. It is recorded in Bukhari Sharif and other books of Hadith that, a man murdered one hundred people but was eventually forgiven by Allah Ta’ala. Hence, one should never lose hope in the mercy of Allah Ta’ala.
The murderer should spend some time in the company of the pious and continuously seek forgiveness for his evil. The company of the pious will assist him in reforming and correcting his life and becoming a better person. There is hope that he, too, will be forgiven, just as the person that murdered one hundred people was forgiven. Also, he should continuously make Dua for his parents and make Isaal-e-Thawaab for them.
عن أبي سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه أن نبي الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: (كان فيمن كان قبلكم رجل قتل تسعة وتسعين نفساً فسأل عن أعلم أهل الأرض فدل على راهب فأتاه فقال: إنه قتل تسعة وتسعين نفساً فهل له من توبة؟ فقال: لا، فقتله فكمل به مائة، ثم سأل عن أعلم أهل الأرض فدل على رجل عالم فقال: إنه قتل مائة نفس فهل له من توبة؟ قال: نعم، من يحول بينه وبين التوبة؟ انطلق إلى أرض كذا وكذا فإن بها أناساً يعبدون الله فاعبد الله معهم ولا ترجع إلى أرضك فإنها أرض سوء، فانطلق حتى إذا نصف الطريق أتاه الموت فاختصمت فيه ملائكة الرحمة وملائكة العذاب، فقالت ملائكة الرحمة: جاء تائباً مقبلا بقلبه إلى الله تعالى، وقالت ملائكة العذاب: إنه لم يعمل خيراً قط، فأتاهم ملك في صورة آدمي فجعلوه بينهم فقال: قيسوا ما بين الأرضين فإلى أيتهما كان أدنى فهو له فقاسوه فوجدوه أدنى إلى الأرض التي أراد فقبضته ملائكة الرحمة).
وفي رواية: (فكان إلى القرية الصالحة أقرب بشبر فجعل من أهلها)، متفق عليه.
