Customers using bathroom facilities

Apr 18, 2024 | Miscellaneous

QUESTION:

At our store, we have a toilet for our female staff only. Occasionally, we get customers who ask for permission to use the staff toilet. However, the staff are not in favour of the customers using the toilets as they make a mess, and the staff end up cleaning the toilet. What is the Shariah ruling on this? Can we refuse the customers from using the staff toilet?

ANSWER:

The owner of the store has the right of affording customers the right of using the shop toilets or not. If the owner consents, then it is fine, otherwise not. If the owner is happy with allowing customers usage of the toilets, then he should hire someone to always clean the toilets, so that staff are not burdened with cleaning of the toilets.
