Unable to discharge Fidyah due to financial constraints
Question:-
If a person is unemployed and cannot discharge Fidya, what should he do? The person is unable to fast due to illness. Also, the person does not have any family to assist him.
Answer:-
One should make Istighfaar (seek forgiveness from Allah Ta’ala) for not being able to fulfil this obligation (of discharging the Fidyah of one’s outstanding fasts). However, one should also make the intention of discharging the outstanding Fidyah in the future if Allah Ta’ala blesses one with wealth.
N.B. Fidyah is only discharged by an elderly person that is too weak or ill, that he or she is unable to fast and there is no hope of recovering at a later stage. If one does recover at a later stage, then the Qadhaa of the missed fasts will have to be kept.
